Google Cloud’s search & recommendation solutions show solid results for retail & e-tail partners

Updated: Feb 14, 2023

Google Cloud has been working with a number of retailers and e-tailers to improve the customer digital experience and rescue lost revenue opportunities. Google Cloud’s ecommerce services Retail Search and Recommendations AI claim to retain potential customers that would otherwise leave the site, increase conversion rates, improve product discovery and reduce prospective customer drop off. Both solutions are geared to integrate easily and quickly with existing Google services such as Google Analytics, tag manager and BigQuery.

According to a recent blog post, IKEA increased its global average ecommerce order value by 2% with Recommendations AI. Swiss online retailer Digitec Galaxus has also seen positive results from Recommendations AI. Christian Sager, Product Owner for Personalization at Digitec Galaxus, commented,” We've noticed a strong increase in the usage of recommendations in general, with Recommendations AI performing with up to a 40% additional increase in CTR compared to the previous period. Customer needs evolved as the pandemic continued, and Recommendations AI adapted well to the changes and allowed us to keep up with our customers and their preferences

Most recently, FNAC Darty has formed a partnership with Google to accelerate its digital transformation ambitions. FNAC Darty is the first French retailer to implement the Retail Search solution in its ecommerce platforms.

Enrique Martinez, CEO of Fnac Darty, said: “As a committed player, we care about our customers and want to help them make informed decisions. Through this collaboration on data and cloud with Google, which is the first-of-its-kind in the French retail sector, our customers will enjoy a more fluid, customized and distinctive online shopping experience. It will improve the performance of our websites through an AI-driven web experience that is ever more immersive and effective. As a result, the partnership will allow us to accelerate our digital transformation and continue to deliver on our Everyday plan.”
